Summer League, Game Six

Welcome to the new Wine Country Curling Club blog. We hope to use this as an extra source of information. Come back weekly(-ish) for the latest league information, discussion about curling etiquette and rules, as well as previews of upcoming Wine Country happenings.

Game of the Week

After the two undefeated teams in Green Division lost in the early round of games last Sunday, Purple Division looked to be following suit, as Team Bally jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three ends against undefeated Team Kuhl. But Bob led Shannon, Gabby, and Wendell battled back over the next two ends and entered the final end down by one. They were sitting two before Josh’s final shot, but hadn’t given the opposing skip much to work with. In the end, Josh couldn’t thread the needle and Team Kuhl scored four to remain undefeated and secure a playoff berth.

At the other end of the spectrum, Team Krein (AKA Sweeping Beauties) won their first game of the season in the interleague match-up with Team Smith. Based on the current standings, the two teams may meet for a rematch in the seventh-place game.

Playoff Seeding

We know which four teams will be vying for the Summer League championship, we just don’t know the seeding nor who will be facing whom.

In Purple Division, both Teams Kuhl and Jones have five wins apiece, and cannot be caught by the 3-3 Team Tudor. In Green Division, three teams are tied with four wins, but Team Gunst looks to be a forfeit for the second week in a row, which should send Teams Satchwell and Swartz into the playoffs.

The playoffs will pit the first place team in one division against the second place team in the other division, with the winners advancing to the championship game. The losers will play for third place. There will be similar matchups between the third and fourth place teams, as well as the fifth and sixth place teams. The two seventh place teams will play each other in round one, and will play the losers of the 5 v 6 matches.
