NorCal Curling Clinic

The NorCal Curling Clinic has been held the weekend before the Crush for the past two years.

August 24-26, 2018 // August 25-27, 2017

$200/person (includes all on-ice instruction and dinner on Saturday night at Skatetown Ice)

Darren Moulding is a 14-year World Curling Tour veteran with many final and semi-final appearances. Darren represented Team Alberta at the 2017 and 2018 Brier Canadian championships and with Team Bottcher, was a silver medalist in 2018! He has a total of 20 Alberta Provincial appearances. In 2015 Darren played with Matt Blandford in the Grand Slam of Curling and The National and Alberta Provincial. As a junior curler Darren was the 1999 Juvenile Youth Alberta Provincial Champion and Alberta Provincial Junior Men’s Champion 2000 and in 2003. Darren won the 2014 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Darren is also a 4-time winner of the Golden Gate Bonspiel and the current Crush champion here at Wine Country Curling Club.

Matt Blandford started his curling career as a junior curler in Newfoundland and Labrador. He was the provincial junior champion three times and represented Newfoundland and Labrador at the Canadian Junior Championships three times. Blandford played at the Newfoundland and Labrador provincial men’s championship as skip in 2006 and 2009. In 2014 he finished 3rd at the Alberta Men’s Provincials. In 2015 Matt skipped in the Grand Slam of Curling The National, and was 5th at the Alberta Boston Pizza Cup. Matt skipped the Wade Scoffin rink for the 2016 Yukon Men’s Curling Championship. For the 2018/2019 season, Matt will skip Team Blandford out of British Columbia.

Darah Blandford has been a curling coach for 14 years and most recently coached the Wine Country Curling Club Women’s Team to bronze medals at the Arena National Championships in May 2018. She is currently the coach of Team Cory Christensen. She is a level 3 CCA certified coach and was a 2016 Yukon Territorial Finalist Coach and a semi-finalist for the 2013 Alberta Off-Ice/Mental Training Coach. From 2009 to 2014, Darah was the National Team Coach for Team Australia and attended the 2012 World Championships. Her player career is just as spectacular: 2005 Karcher Junior Nationals, 2007 Players Championship Semi-Finalist, and lead on Team Law (British Columbia) in the 2007 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

7:00pm-9:00pm
Our 3 instructors will hold an off-ice strategy discussion. The Fountains Room is attached to the hotel bar so feel free to enjoy libations and snacks and bring your own food in! Depending on the make up of the attendees, this session could be broken up into two groups of beginner strategy and intermediate/advanced strategy.

Saturday, August 25, 2018

10:00am-1:30pm
Our instructors will offer insight into communication, team dynamics, team building, gap analysis, and setting goals. This will be a small group exercise giving participants the ability to ask questions and gain insight into competitive curling. This seminar will take place at the Fountains Room at the hotel.

2:00pm-2:45pm – Arrive at Skatetown Ice and sign waivers

3:00pm-5:30pm – On-ice instruction (more details on the breakdown of the on-ice sessions to come)

5:30pm-6:30pm – Dinner at Skatetown Ice

6:30pm-10:00pm – On-ice instruction

10:00pm-whenever – Broomstacking at Nix Taco!
